When fighting off a cold or flu, your body is taking a beating so don't give it more work. Take it easy and eat lightly with easy to digest foods and ones that carry lots of nutrition. Consume lots of fluids such as water, soothing teas and vegetable-based soups with spices that have some healing and supportive properties.
Especially when getting over an illness, avoid high sugar foods like processed juices and desserts. Fresh juices that you press at home are ideal though. In addition, keep in mind that milk products can cause mucous build up for some so best to stay away from them as well. Chose dairy alternatives like almond milk (like the recipe below) and kefir and yogurt made with coconut milk. Fast and processed foods carry little nutritional punch and contain lots of negative food additives. Alcohol is very dehydrating and can play havoc with your immune system. Keep that in the cabinet as well.
